What do we know about DuBs?

The Pulvis Vegrandis Bestia or "Dust Bunny" as it is commonly called, was discovered by a freak accident. That mistake, however, would join many others in this world that turned out to be great beneficial discoveries.

What has been found is an intelligent, problem-solving species of microscopic size, that have constructed habitats in our very homes in clumps of ordinary
dust found everywhere, everyday.

The short form summary of what information we know is compiled below in a FAQ section.

Further more, we urge you to try our "Public Research Tools" to visually explore the DuBs on your own!

What are Dust Bunnies (DuBs) composed of?

The DuB is a sentient being pulled together from several forms of discarded living tissue, as well as dust itself. While we still do not know the origin of their automation and consciousness, we have broken down the physical structure to being largely constructed from human tissue.

Skin flakes, dandruff and hair molecules all mold together to give the DuBs their biological functions.

Further research is proving the DuBs may originate in some way from Dust Mites.

What do DuBs eat?

The main diet of the DuB appears to be the same general elements which compose them. DuBs have been commonly observed collecting excess human tissue and ingesting it to reinforce their current structure.

To supplement their diet, DuBs are commonly observed ingesting fungus and bacteria.

Where do they live?

The DuBs use a method similar to the modern insect to construct their infrastructure. Collecting dust particles and sturdy clumps of waste, the DuBs use their saliva-like excretion to cement particles together and thus mold a wall.

Showing extensive intelligent design, DuBs have constructed an array of buildings which appear to be commonplace in nearly every DuB civilization. Gathering places, home dwellings, and civil services all seem central to the DuB universe.

Similar to the human world, some DuB clusters are further along in development than others, and their infrastructure echoes their educational development.

How do they communicate?

Using a sound wave amplifying microscope and viewer, we have been able to trace the DuB vocal interactions. What has been discovered is a pattern of speech commonly affiliated with higher intelligence.

While objects with noun-like properties have their own words in the DuB world, adjectives and verbs that affect these nouns appear to show in different pitches of the noun.

We have been unable to track down a written communication standard, as all stories and information appear to be passed via the vocal language. It is believed by some that DuB libraries do exist, and only elder DuBs may be allowed to enter.

Do they have a social system?

The DuBs have developed a social system strikingly similar to the way humans developed theirs.

Seen in the DuB community are governmental centers where "higher standing" DuBs appear to congregate and lay out foundations for the DuB society. Extensive research has proven changes in the DuB world typically began at this cultural "town hall."

Elders also appear to hold a high place in DuB culture. The older a DuB becomes, the less work it will do and the more it will delegate. Rarely does a younger DuB overrule an elder.

Do they have religion?

It is one theory that DuBs believe in polytheism, placing idols where they do not understand scientific events.

Seen commonly are statutes of DuBs, some believed to be icons of their gods. Rarely is patronage paid to the statues, but when disasters strike a small offering will typically be made.

The idols do appear in their form, common of most religions.

The book is not closed on this area of thought, as the statues could also be icons of their history.

Do they fight with each other?

Violence is almost non-existent in the DuB community from what we have observed.

What is seen often is the reuse of DuB material. If a DuB dies or is critically wounded, it is not uncommon for worker DuBs to harvest useable material from the organism, to construct many DuB artifacts.

It is important to remember that all objects in the DuB world are derived from dust and flakes of larger organisms, so the basic building blocks of individual DuBs carry great value in their society.

How do they handle catastrophic events, like our interaction?

The DuBs appear to function in a similar fashion to insects. Systematically after disaster strikes, they will go about collecting reusable resources and start right over again.

The one trait they have that humans do not is the ability to focus after disaster without emotion. They appear un-phased by its occurrence and go about reconstruction as if routine.

Given the amount of dust relocation we do daily, it is logical DuBs would be used to disasters. This of course will vary from community to community based on location.

Are they aware of us?

This is something we are not entirely sure of, but have several theories about.

The DuBs do have their religious idols and gods, but they appear to be similar to the practice of Greek mythology, in creating idols to manipulate scientific actions they cannot understand.

We feel it is impossible for them to perceive our presence in detail. We are far too large, just as to us they are far too small to see without microscopic aid.

Our influence in their world is distinctly felt, however, as every time we move a speck of dust, an entire community is effected as if a natural disaster has struck.

There is the Hug a Dub foundation, created to help preserve the DuBs and limit the harm to them.

What have we learned from them?

While DuB research in the past few years has focused on understanding their society and existence, we are beginning to move forward by looking at the implications of DuBs in our lives.

DuBs, by nature, harvest dead human material as the building blocks of their world and very being: does this mean we could use the DuBs to harvest cells we find undesirable in our bodies?

It is the lab's hope that further research can prove the DuBs can be trained and used to extract cancer cells from our bodies and help cure many ailments. The future for DuBs and humankind could rest on each others shoulders.
